The New Mexico Commission for the Blind
The New Mexico Commission for the Blind assists blind persons to become employed, and to live independently in their homes and communities. The Commission also sponsors NFB-NEWSLINE for the Blind, a free newspaper reading service that includes NFB-NEWSLINE. New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired
The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired was founded in 1903 as a land grant school governed by a Board of Regents. Three years later, the school opened its doors in Alamogordo, New Mexico with 21 students, 2 teachers and a superintendent. It is a specialized school which provides residential, academic, support, and outreach services to the blind and visually impaired students of New Mexico. NMSBVI is an entirely special education school. Today, the main campus is still located on the original site in Alamogordo with an Early Childhood Program and Outreach Program housed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
